Okay so…no this is not my bedroom but I am showing you this because like this simple bedroom, me and my husband don’t need alot.  We have just recently gotten rid of most of our furniture in our bedroom and found that it is so much more space to spread out.     Anyway, this is the scene of where we had our May family meeting in.  We decided to make it informal this time and it was a lot shorter.

Where we left off last month was that my daughter received the Employee of the Month!!

She was awarded it by her brothers in May for taking care of Sage. She was exempt from chores for the month of May.  She got to choose who was Employee of the Month….

And the winner is…….

Brian Sr.!! Yeah!! She chose her dad because he was very helpful with everyone’s chores.  As his prize he gets every Friday, Saturday and Sunday off of chores for the month of June including cooking.  So this is how he will be spending his weekends for now…..

Family meeting…..letting the cub be a bear

Previously on the Smith Family meetings…..
Last three months, the Smith Family has been implementing a new chore system consisting of random selection of numbers and choosing the Employee of the month.  In the month of February, we had me as the winner, then Brian jr. and Devon for March…now the question is who was deserving of the Employee of the Month for April!

Since Jr and Devon were exempt from chores last month, they voted and the winner was…….
Congratulate Briana!!🎉( She showed great care when it came to her dog Sage and was able to balance schoolwork and after-school sports at the same time.

Now that is not the end of this story….In doing this monthly meetings, we did start off with Zoom and while it was fun to do this…every felt that it wasnt effective to do our meetings this way. So, I came up with having a round table meeting where we all can look at each other with copies of the meeting agenda in front of us. At first, I was very upset at the fact that the family knew about the meeting time but did not show up when requested so it was late.

After we did finally get started, I compiled an agenda on paper for our topics so everyone could follow along.

20190504_005517.jpg

Everyone this month got to look at what chores were on the paper and chose what they wanted. Devon picked #1, Sr. picked #2, Jr. picked #3 and I got what was left which was Sage. Briana being Employee of the Month was exempt so she will be monitoring everyone to see who gets rewarded for May.  Now after we had our meeting…the next day it was brought to my attention by Devon that dishes⛾🍴🍽 were not assigned as a chore. Uh-Oh!!😮
After thinking about it I decided that the 3 guys should split it up but it took all but 1 day and they were piling dishes like the water had been cut-off..lol. I decided to split Sun-Thurs and I do Friday and Saturdays, that way it gets done👍
Another topic which was important to cover was shopping for the teens. Me and my husband are getting older and want to make life easier for ourselves. I proposed that the teens start to compile their own lists and the three of them go shopping for their needs instead of relying on us to do it for them. Basically, I have let go but my husband hasn’t…so this had to be forced on the table. The teens will learn how to bargain shop and look at prices and maybe they wont be so quick to pick up as many items when they have a budget. So this month is when they start the program…I know it will work out just fine.

*Very Important: Have family meetings so that everyone can be on the same page. Especially when your kids are grown-up….it makes a big difference when they go out into the real world🌏

Stay tuned to see who gets Employee of the Month……

Family Meeting…..Team Challenge!!

We left off last month with starting an Employee of the month winner…which was me, by popular vote, and I was exempt from chores for a whole month. So this month, I got to pick who was Employee of the month based on their performance last month. Last month, we split up into 2 teams, Briana and her dad then Devon and Jr. And the winner was Devon and Brian Jr. for great teamwork when it came to dishes and towels!! On the other side, Briana and her dad…I have no ideal what was going on but, yeah with taking care of our dog Sage and cleaning bathrooms…I’m sure you can figure it out..lol.

So in doing this team experiment, we realized that while having two people in charge of multiple chores and working together..doesn’t always get things done unless you do follow-ups with each other and actually setting schedules. This month, since Jr and Devon won the challenge last month, they are exempt from chores and everyone else has there own individual chores.

Mom-Dishes 🍽/ cleaning bathrooms🚽

Dad-Towels💦 and sweep/mop floors💧

Briana– Taking care of our dog Sage🐶 and vaccuming🏡

Stayed tuned next month to see who wins this challenge voted by Devon and Jr.

Family Meeting….Take 2…Action!!

So we left off last month with the Smith Family learning a new way to communicate in their family meetings called Zoom.  We rejoin the Smiths in their March meeting with topics such as chores, employee of the month, cleaning and helpful tips to save their lives.

Yesterday on Zoom….

We discussed the chore redistribution by having everyone pick a number from 1-5.  After this, we had everyone split up into two teams.

Later on…..

We all had to write down prior to the meeting who they thought should be Employee of the Month and why….fold it up into little pieces and put into a box.  Sr. was in-charge of revealing the votes.  When I announced what the prize would be for the Employee of the Month…there was outrage from the crowd!! Needless to say, a couple people were not happy with the results of the Employee of the Month.

And the winner was…..MOM with 3 votes20190208_144511_HDR_1549665119698[1]

*I won the Employee of the Month and I am exempt from chores for a whole month!!*

To end the meeting we have two teams: Briana and her dad will be taking care of Sage and the bathrooms while Devon and Jr. will be doing dishes, towels/sheets,  vacuuming, sweeping and mopping. We also as the parents did a 15 minute demonstration for the teens.

Brian Sr. showed them what to look for in an oven fire and where to turn off breakers, and second, in case of flooding where the main shut-off is in the front yard and how to properly turn it off.

I showed them how to clean the bathroom properly in 15 minutes.

Family Meetings are a must have….

Yes…everyone it is time for the Parenting Tip for February.
So me and my family decided to do our monthly family meeting differently…we discovered Zoom. If you have never used Zoom, it is a way to get everyone on the same page without being in the same room.
We tried it…and of course we had some hiccups
Devon Smith -erased the text I sent for the Zoom meeting
Briana Smith– never got the text for Zoom meeting
Brian Smith Jr.- was playing on his screen too much
but Sr. surprised me being the less tech savvy out of all us and showing up first to the meeting👍
Okay, so after I resent the link and everyone was on board after 10 minutes we got started finally. I will tell you that having a meeting like this is awesome!! We talked about chores…everyone picked a number 1-5 and all the chores were scrambled so they couldn’t get the same one twice. I got whatever was left over…DISHES..ugh.
Anyhow, everyone having a chance to speak their opinions on our topics was easier and the teens appreciated it.
This month we implemented Employee of the Month- At our next meeting, each person writes down a person, other than themselves, who deserves the incentive. Whoever wins gets a prize…stay tuned to find out who wins!!
