This one’s going to be a tear jerker…a difficult time in my life….I promise I will make this as painless as possible.

My biggest job was to be a mom which I loved from day 1 and my children are and always have been my number #1 priority.  Going to work full-time wasn’t easy but it had to be done for my family.  I worked in Retail for over 20 years and it didn’t end very well.

The most difficult time in my life was finding where I belong.  I walked into an industry where not many woman had opportunities to go into upper management especially an African-American woman.  I worked for a company that was predominantly of male influence because it involved heavy lifting and experience with specialized skills and education.  Image result for group of men cartoon

Over the last couple years, women have been able to own successful companies and beat men out on promotions but during my time it was very difficult.  My problem was that I was great at what I did and there was no way they wanted me to go anywhere else in the company.  Finding good people who are exceptional at their jobs was hard.  That was a problem for me.  Every time I would try to go forward, I would be pushed two steps back..whether I wasn’t experienced enough or I didn’t have the education.

Moving my Family-  I though that bringing my family to Florida would give me more opportunities for growth not only with my career but personally.  My family was happy about the move but as the years went by, I started to wonder whether I made the right decision to pursue a career.

Working my butt off – The on and off of rejection after rejection for promotions…I got to a breaking point.  My family missed me a lot and I realized and I began to wonder whether I was good enough to move forward, was I smart enough, did I not get enough education, do they not like me? The old saying goes…

“You are only as good as what you do today, yesterday doesn’t matter.”

In the end – I ended up giving up my quest for a career not because I wanted to…God had a different plan for me.  I am loving every minute of it.

That’s all I got for you until tomorrow for Day 25….

31 Day Challenge-Day 23

Text_Over_Photo1565902150329[1]

We all know those things that make us tick…makes us want to say Why? So here are the things that really ANNOY ME..

  1. Gas Tank – Every time I get in a car, the fuel light is on. A car can’t run without gas so why keep the tank empty. I believe in keeping the gas tank full or at least at a quarter of a tank full. A body is made up of 80% water and to deprive it of it…it will die just like a car.
  2. Little Bit Left –When you are down to the last little bit of fluid in a carton or jug, it should be topped off in the cup, not put back in the fridge.
  3. Politics – I do not like talking about it, reading about, or seeing it on all my news feeds. What is going on with the government really doesn’t matter to me…it’s all like a big soap opera for me. Entertainment with no end.
  4. Being Ignored – Well this is self-explanatory. I hate when I start talking and I have to repeat myself.
  5. Indecisiveness – On a previous post, I stated that when I go to a restaurant, I know what I want before I get there, I don’t like to go through a drive-up and people are indecisive.
  6. Your Word – When a person says they are going to do something, I expect them to do it. Your word is important when you make a commitment. If I have to follow-up with you several times, it tells me that what you said you would do is not as important to you with me then I can’t trust you.
  7. Liar Liar Pants on Fire – I hate when people lie to my face. I just wish everyone would tell the truth, it would be a whole lot easier in this world.

That’s it for now…stay tuned for Day 24 tomorrow..

I love music…any kind of music!! The world has changed as far as music is concerned.  Now, being old-fashioned, I will say that music has really gone south since the 80’s.  Now all I hear all about sex, drugs, getting high, disrespecting women and men and shooting each other.  I am so tired of it…I need it to go back to when music was about feeling good and being in love.  I hear these songs that I just can’t figure out why or how they were able to be produced.  Teens these days..this is all they know.  All we can do is teach them right from wrong and hope they know the difference.  Now that I have said that…let’s get down to my favorite songs of all time!!

  1. Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears

2. Whatever it Takes by Anita Baker

3. Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is by Chicago

4. Another Brick in the Wall 2 by Pink Floyd  (I love all 3 parts)

5. Foxy Lady by Jimi Hendrix

6. Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder

7. Soul Makossa by Manu Dibango

8. Heartbreaker by Justin Beiber

9. Reasons by Earth Wind and Fire

10. What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye

Enjoy all the videos…until tomorrow for Day 22

31 Day Challenge-Day 19

Text_Over_Photo1565281182342[1]

Okay so for this challenge, I asked my loving family who knows my comings and goings and how I operate.  I told them to give me one thing that they find is one of my worst habits.  Here we go:

      My husband Brian said:

“You do not close the lids or put lids on things tightly.”

20190808_205336[1]

Okay, so, in my defense, I do this and it is not a good habit.  Sometimes I spill stuff but other times I get lucky and don’t.  As to closing the lids on jars, I can’t do it that tightly because of carpal tunnel and I can open lids that great so I use a can opener or ask someone to do it for me…lol

My oldest son Brian said:

“You put things in the shopping cart at the grocery store that are not on the list.”

Image result for free images of grocery shopping

Okay, again, in my defense, I forget to put things on the list.  Every time we go to the store, it seems there are things we need and I forget..lol

My daughter Briana said:

“You yell too much.”

Image result for free images of yelling

Guilty as charged on all three so far….yelling is my way of getting my point across after I have already said it numerous times.  I think most people do this when they feel ignored, I am trying not to do it all the time now so I don’t raise my blood pressure.

My youngest son Devon said:

“You leave lights on too much.”

20190808_205315[1]

Okay, so this is my light in my office…I tend to leave it on every time I leave my office but I am coming right back.  He goes behind me and turns every light off..lol

As for me, I think my worst habit is:

“I warm up to people to quickly without getting to know them from the background.”

Image result for free images of friendships

What I mean by this is, I have met a lot of people in my life and because I want to assume the best in them, they become a part of my life without me really seeing who they are in many different situations.  I am one of a few women who do not have many close friendships with people due to the fact that many have shown their true cards on the table after they see that I am a nice person.  I am a positive person and do not like drama, so for me to become friends with you, I expect that you show me who you are before I find out.  Communication is a strength f mine and most people who know me, know I mean what I say and do.  I am not transparent and what you see is what you get.

31 Day Challenge-Day 17

Text_Over_Photo1565281067263[1]

Going back to my childhood, I can remember a lot of books but my all-time favorite was…wait for it…

20190808_190707[1]

I still read this book to this day.  This isn’t the original one I had as a child because it got lost. I love the story line about a puppy who doesn’t listen to his mother and goes exploring when he shouldn’t and learns valuable lessons.

As the saying goes: “If mama ain’t happy, no one is happy”

I used to have a wind up doggy that I used to play with with my book.  Needless to say, the book and dog didn’t survive I’m sad to say…but now I have a real dog, his name is Sage.

My favorite quote by Maya Angelou

So, as you can see, a big difference in my life this past 8 months since I retired.  I love the freedom of coming and going as I please and having a great support system in my family.  I knew I had to make a change because I wasn’t happy making others dreams come true.

31 Day Challenge-Day 12

Text_Over_Photo1565280605371[1]

People are always saying, ” If I won the lottery, I would quit my job, buy myself a mansion, boat and anything I have ever wanted.”  I hear this and I keep looking at the people that are millionaires according to the television and I wonder why is it they are so unhappy with having so much money and time on their hands.  Why are they killing themselves or going bankrupt after working so hard…I figured it out…it’s not money that will set you free, it is the love you have for yourself and others not the coins you have in the bank and life you live.  I took Psychology in school and it is a known fact that most people want to be able to never have to worry about anything in their life, but it will never happen.  Having money in the bank helps one problem but what about health and everyday feeling and emotions…you can’t buy that.  The more you have, the more you want, it never is satisfied.

Related image

For me, the lottery is another way for the world to create one more problem for people who have addictions, those that dream of winning and never do, or taking hard working people’s money away that they probably needed to pay their rent with.  I am okay with people every once in awhile having a little fun together buying a ticket or betting on games but when it disturbs the economic structure of us putting food on the table, it is a problem.

Don’t get me wrong, I have played before but I don’t take food out of my kids mouths or declare myself homeless just to get to misery.  If you think about it, everyone you know is going to know you won it and that is when the problems beginning.  I would rather have a smile on my face everyday and live my life then have to worry about people coming after me.  I think if we are going to continue to play, let’s play for a better cause like free health care for everyone or allowing everyone a free college education.

Image result for free images of medical

So, with saying all that, if I won the lottery, I am retired so I don’t have to quit my job.  Probably make sure my kids education was fully paid, & the house is paid in full.  All the debt we have is taken care of.  I always wanted an RV so I would get one to enjoy family road trips.  The rest of the money would be used as needed.  I don’t believe in asking for more than I have because I am happy just the same.  We as people have to realize that what we have is a blessing and it was meant for us to have, what we do with it is up to us….it sets the tone for whether we are happy or miserable for our one life to live.

Friendship…How many do you really have?

The meaning of friendship to me is a person who is there for you through the good and the bad.  The people who call you for no reason to see how you are, catch up with you on current events and making sure you are doing well.  I have had my fair share of what I would call Friendships for the Moment because people have taken advantage of how generous I am and use me for the what they can get out of me.  Or the friendships that come from having something in common like one friend-those never last for me because everyone eventually goes off and is separated from the new person in the group.

Friendships are made when you are younger and also when you are older.   Personalities change and interests come with most friendships.  Most relationships can withstand the test of the time with living in the same neighborhood and sharing their lives together.  Friendships long ago used to last years but given the changing of people and the technology, it becomes increasingly harder to maintain a solid friendship these days. I have seen people on Facebook and Instagram rate their friendships by likes and comments on their posts and it causes people to unfriend.  Friendships are not based on likes, it is all about how we support one another through the good and bad times.  Supporting one another through achievements and failures is what is needed to show love to another.

Friendships come in many forms from pets, family and couples.  Loyalty is the number one in friendships…which is so hard to find these days.  Love comes in many forms and recognizing it can be the beginning of a long lasting friendship.

In the past year, I have had the privilege of meeting some incredible people and am thankful everyday for their friendships.  I met a man 20 years ago who started out as my boss, then an acquaintance then….we all know how the story goes.  My husband of 20 years, we are best friends for life.  About 23 years ago, when I was 18,  I met a women who I never knew would make such an impact on my life to this day. We understand each other and have watched both our lives unfold -the good and the bad.  She has been there for me and still is.  Although we live miles away, she is my BFF for life and nothing will ever change that.

To answer my question: How many friends do you have?  I have 2 Bff’s I love dearly .

31 Day Challenge-Day 11

Text_Over_Photo1565280507970[1]

Okay so…day 11, what is my most proudest moment?  Now most would say that a mother of three kids would say that is my most proudest moment or going back to school and getting a degree was.  Although it was a wonderful gift and my greatest accomplishment all four times..I am going to tell you about a personal moment I had with myself.

Image result for free images of retailImage result for free images of pepsi

So, my story started 25 years ago when I entered into the the workforce as a Retail and Sales Associate.  I have worked for Boston Market, Marc’s Deeper Discount, Revco aka CVS Pharmacy part-time.  My first full-time position was with Pepsi Beverages Company.  After working so many part-time jobs for over 20 years, it was very hard for me to transition to 40 hours a week.  I had to make this transition from being a part-time worker/full-time housewife and mother to a full-time working gal to support my family.  My husband became disabled 8 years ago and was forced to stop working.  I stepped up.

working momscropped-cropped-cropped-20180617_1425492.jpg

So I worked 40, 50, 60 and sometimes 70 hours a week to keep a roof over our heads, the lights on, food in our belly and still be able to save money on the side for emergency.  I did this for 4 years straight all while going to school to get my business degree. One day we decided it was time to take that next step……

20190808_133708[1]

I bought us a home!!

When we received the keys to our very own home after renting for so long…I cried..it was my proudest moment!! Most people wait a life time to own their very own home long ago but to know that I was able to get this house after so much time, I couldn’t believe it.  I was 38 years old and indeed very proud of taking care of my family. We have now been in Lakeland Florida for 4 years, I am now retired and am loving every minute of it!!

That’s all I have for you today until tomorrow guys, don’t forget to…

31 Day Challenge Day 10

Text_Over_Photo1564574980833[1]

First Celebrity crush….really has changed over the years with all the new actors making their way to television and radio. I didn’t have any celebrity crushes as a child…I know that sounds weird but for some reason no one person gave me that spark. I got older and then that is when I started watching movies and I got my list.

And here it is…..

IMG_20190804_020222[1]

Oohh…lala…My list starts from left to right with Johnny Depp, I fell in love with him in Pirates in the Caribbean.  Next up, Terrence Howard, I fell for his spunk in Best Man.  Mr. Ray Liotta an Irishmen, Italian and gangster in of my favorite movies GoodFellas, he was gorgeous.  Last but not least, Superman himself, Dean Cain, I loved him as Clark/Superman and also in the movie Out of Time with Denzel Washington.

As much as I loved all these guys then, right now I’ve got my eye on only one crush

Robert Downey Jr.

IMG_20190804_020234[1]

Fell for him while he was doing Iron-man and then he kept going with the Avengers.

Next up is Celebrity girl crushes…

IMG_20190804_020249[1]

Jillian Michaels – I idolize her for her strength and courage.  She represents a women who has proven through it all that women can overcome how they feel about themselves and how the world judges them based on their looks and sexuality.

Michelle Rodriguez I have admired her since the Fast and Furious.  She is a bad ass on screen and a soft feminine energy off-screen with a caring spirit.

Both ladies are beautiful and sexy in their own unique way.

Sorry, I didn’t have any singer celebrity crushes……the 90’s were a very confusing time..lol.

Well that’s all I got for now….
