Book Review #1:Rachel Hollis

Hey hey guys, I am doing something a little bit different these coming months where I am going to introduce you to my world of reading. Now, I will admit, I have not read a book all the way through since 50 Shades of Grey Part 1 came out but I have always wanted to read interesting works by other writers. The book I am going to review this month is a book written by a great women who loves to help other women get out of their way and see what the potential that they already have. Growing from tragedy and being able to be successful in life with some bumps along the way is real-life for her and she wants you to know-ITs Normal! Introducing a lady I highly respect for her courage and empowerment of other: Rachel Hollis

I read this book from cover to cover and was amazed at the similiarities we have. I thought I was the only one thinking and going through it. For those of you who do not know who Rachel Hollis is, she is a Mom of 3 boys and a 1 girl, wife to Dave Hollis and founder of a lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and Ceo of her own Media company. She has alot of followers online via instagram, facebook, youtube etc. She is a woman who likes to tell it like it is, she encourages, enlightens and works to help others acheive the same sense of confidence she exudes throughout everything she does with the help of God.

I am going to review this book in 4 parts:

  • Why did I pick this book to read?
  • What part of the book, really hit home for me: (ex. made me cry or have a aha moment)?
  • What is one thing I took away from the book that I will change in my life?
  • How would I rate this book out of 5 stars?

Rachel Hollis: Girl, Wash Your Face

  • I picked this book because it came highly recommended online. I was curious as to what washing my face meant so I said this might be a great book just by the title, so I bought it. I never realized when I opened it, I would never be able to put it down. It spoke to me so well. Everything, well almost everything, was so similiar to my life I couldn’t believe that this nice young lady had gone through all that and still managed to be a great women waking up everyday helping people with her wisdom and lending a helping hand.
  • A part in the book that really hit home for me was Chapter 15: I Will Never Get Past This- when she talked about her family. Not being as close as she wanted to be after the tradegy just trying to salvage what was left of her relationships and picking up the peices and moving forward in church and counseling, which is always the best medicine. I cried through the whole chapter.
  • One thing she stressed so much in her book about it being happy with who you are. It doesnt matter what you didnt accomplish or who hurt you in your past, you are responsible for your own happiness. Never let others believe you are never good enough to try new things or pick where you left off with years ago. Always try to be you and be happy for you not anyone else. I realizes that in trying to make others happy all at once, I have made myself unhappy. I have decided to run away from toxic or negative things and let others be unhappy by themselves and take care of me first. Be there after I am taken care of then console others.
  • 5- star rating from me for original content, very personable and uplifting!

Looking forward to reading her other book:

Girl, Stop Apoligizing

She Cave….Finally!!

For many years…women have been trying figure out why there has never been a place a woman could get some peace and quiet. Most men who shop for homes or apartments are always looking for a bachelor pad…women on the other hand are looking for functional space. Well, I have been through both and being a mom of 3 and wife for over 20 years…I need my space!

So I did something about it. I cleared out one of our sheds one day into the other…actually I put everything outside and the kids put it in the other shed during a rain storm. It was so wonderful to see them all work together. Stage 1 of my shed was cleanup. You wouldnt believe how much dust and dirt is in a shed along with bugs…ugh. Step 2 was finding furniture. It wasnt hard for me to find some stuff to take from the house but I needed a really good sofa. One day me and my husband was doing our 3 mile walk one-day and I passed by a neighbor of ours and they were getting rid of a futon which at Walmart you can get 300$…omg Me, Sr and Jr loaded it up in the van about midnight and checked it out and it passed inspection-YaY!! Step 3..last step was getting a few accessories like a fridge and air conditioner-it can get Hot in sheds.Everything in its place…tada

I love it so much!! Let me tell you, I have had so many movie nights and it so peaceful in my She Cave. Some of the products I purchased:

I have always wanted a hammock and I got one. I got most of my items on Walmart.com or in person like these items:

and a couple pillows along with my Live, Laugh, Love rug.

Thank you for reading…just wanted to share a great accomplishment!!

One Fabulous Blogging Year

20190711_172035

It is the one -year anniversary of MMMoffamilyentertainment and we have had a phenomenal year!! I started this blog last September as a outlet to help me talk about all the exciting things my family does and it has turned into something so much more!! I want to thank everyone who has been so supportive of my blog whether you were there from the beginning or you became a big fan recently. I have many goals for this blog and I want to continue making an effort to grow this blog in the coming years. Here are some of the highlights from this years blog….

Featured Entrepreneurs from November 2018-April 2019 These entrepreneurs were interviewed by me and were picked to do a feature for the month. Check out their interviews under “What’s Your Business” menu section. From left to right: (ManySkirts, Lauren Najar, Devion Ayers, Michiko Riezz, Danielle Renee and Kate Scully)

Entrepreneurs on the rise….I had the pleasure of working closely with all these women professionally from placing and ad in my blog to supporting and sharing their business opportunities or products in Social Media. Check out their ads under “What’s Your Business” From top to bottom: (Lashameka Jones, Crystal Ervin, Demetria Brown, Laurie Goodman, Lorraine Bradshaw, Tiffany Hiatt and Michiko Riezz)

Celebrating Black History Month….a look at Black History legends who made history. All these people for the 28 days were ones who were the first to accomplish something in their time. Check out the “Black History” section of the menu to see the posts for February 2019.

Family Shenanigans…I did an experiment with my whole family from January to June this year that involved having family meetings and working together. Check out our outcome under the “My Story” ….its a laugh.

Awards and Recognitions….so this past year I have been recognized by my blogging community as not only a great writer but very inspiring. I was nominated by Charli Dee of Life with Charli and Outdoors with the Skis

as a Sunshine Blogger twice, been challenged to answer 73 questions by Charli Dee about myself-which is no easy task and I have been recognized by the organization P.O.W.E.R for my inspirational writing and things I do in the community. Check out these post under “My Story” in the menu section.

My 31 Day Blog Challenge for August….I saw this challenge on Twitter from one of my favorite bloggers Ashlee Nicole of Ashlee Nicole Explained,

20190816_003100[1]

she was doing it and I said I am up for a challenge!! I did 31 days straight of writing and you can see my prompts under “My Story” in the menu section.

Speaking from personal experience…I wrote a lot about being a wife , mom and just being human. it is very hard to run so many roles. Check out my post under the “Getting Real” menu section or click below

Setting Goals for the last couple months….Well I hit some milestones on my blog and I wanted to grow my social networks and strive to hit a particular number for each one. MMMoffamilyentertainment was able to hit almost 300 followers for the year. Twitter– I hit my goal of 500 followers in 3 months. My Pinterest, I started with 7 followers in May and reached my goal of over 100 followers last week. And last but not least my Instagram at 500 followers.

  • Eat breakfast on the way to the first client…drive time at least an hour and half
  • Eat lunch in the car on the way and snack in between clients
  • Sweat through my clothes and get to the point where the 3 pm slump happens…I’m tired.
  • I wrap up my last clients up around 5 or 6 pm
  • Call my husband when I am on my way home
  • Get home, take a shower and eat dinner
  • Say goodnight to my kids and go to bed at 10 or 11 pm, if I didn’t have homework
  • Start all over again the next day…

I never did get to where I wanted to be, but I learned that you have to love what you do in order to be happy. God had other plans for me.

And now…Retired Life….

  • Up at 1 or 2 pm maybe 12 noon on a good day
  • Wash up and proceed to open the curtains for sunshine
  • Wash the dishes
  • Eat breakfast
  • If scheduled work on my blog for at least 5 hours
  • Eat my lunch through blogging hours
  • On Tuesdays, 5$ movie days we will see a movie if interested
  • If I am not feeling pain from arthritis, pain in my back or it isn’t humid outside, I will walk 3 miles with my husband around the lake for my Physical Therapy
  • Prepare my dinner (Our teens are now self-sufficient so they prepare their own meals now)
  • Watch some sporting event or movie with the hubby or have date night
  • Me and hubby take our dog Sage for his walk around 11 pm or 12 am
  • Watch a television series while falling a sleep around 2 or 3 am.

My favorite quote by Maya Angelou

So, as you can see, a big difference in my life this past 8 months since I retired.  I love the freedom of coming and going as I please and having a great support system in my family.  I knew I had to make a change because I wasn’t happy making others dreams come true.

That’s all I got for you until tomorrow …stay tuned for Day 16 and don’t forget to:

31 Day Challenge-Day 1

Hey guys!! How are you? So, yes, I am starting a new challenge which I have never done before except Black History Month when I had to come up with a new history fact for 28 days.  I love challenges so I am embarking on a writing challenge for 31 days where I blog about random facts about myself.  The fun thing about this is that it will test a person to see how well they know themselves.  Let me introduce you to:

Text_Over_Photo1564574097493[1]

So, let me introduce myself, I am LaFrieda and I am the owner of MMMoffamilyentertainment and I am a wife and mother of three and I live in Lakeland Florida.  I was originally born and raised in Cleveland Ohio,  the Heart of Rock-n-Roll, which is probably why I love rock-n-roll so much.  My favorite bands are Journey, Led Zeppelin and Eagles.  I also love R&b, country, jazz and pop!! In my free time, I love to write and attend movies, which is why I am an entertainment writer.  I am recently retired due to disabilities and have decided to make the most of my life by living it everyday despite my limitations.  As I said before, I took on this challenge to write for 31 days and want you all to get to know me a little better.  That’s all I got for now, don’t want to give away to much, now would I..lol?

If you would like to join me in the 31-day Blogging challenge that would be awesome!! I would love to read more about my fellow bloggers.  Give me a shout out by messaging me and I will send you the prompts if you don’t already have them.  Let me know in the comments what you think and don’t forget:

My life as a mom…making it easier on myself

Image result for free images of moms working hardRelated imageRelated image

Moms lets face it we have way too much to do everyday and we think there is no way to make it easier…actually, I have found alot of ways to make things easier on myself.  Meet me and my teens…

P10_1557919910904

My kids are now teens and I thought it would be easier as they got older…nope…it just gets more difficult to communicate to your family that you need help.  I have a disability, so everything I do daily centers around making sure that things get taken care of around the house.  Every once and awhile, my teens amaze me and do something without asking.  I love being a mom but I am so tired all the time.
I am getting a lot of request from moms about how I come up with all these ideas to make things simpler in my household.  So I am going to share with you 5 tips on how I manage my daily maintenance with 5 grown people in the house….
  • Tip #1  Everyone knows that laundry is a pain and if you could do less of it you would, right? Everyday, I heard from the kids “Where are all the towels?” or “Every time I go to wash up there are no towels?”  Someone would be assigned to them and wouldn’t do them so I got frustrated with them using our whole inventory of 15 towels in one day so I reduced everyone to a lovely beach towel cloths.  My husband loves Star Trek so special ordered it, I have the Tiger because I love them, Briana has a doggy because she loves animals, Devon loves wrestling so I special ordered the All-stars WWE and Jr. has the Patriots, which is his favorite team.  These do not absorb water and can be reused over and over until they are dirty.  We only do the wash cloths and hand towels which is so much better.FB_IMG_1558746059035
  • Tip #2 Writing notes around the house…very important!!  For some reason, saying it and writing it gets two different results.  From air conditioner settings, to trash and recycle to driver safety.  We are recycling now to use less trash bags and it saves a lot of money.  If anyone has teen drivers, the S.M.I.T.H method will help in guiding them in checking the right things when getting in the car.  I came up with this when my oldest started driving 5 years ago and now I use it for my daughter.FB_IMG_155874606473120190523_112835[1]
  • Tip #3  Cleaning supplies have gone down to bare essentials.  I have found that the chemicals are too toxic to me, pets and the environment, so I only use Vinegar, Water and for tough stains baking soda.  To clean messes off counters we use the towels given to us from the Florida Tropics soccer game we go to.  Make sure you keep Clorox wipes to clean off phones since they have more germs than a toilet seat.FB_IMG_1558746069653
  • Tip #4  Kitchen cabinet organization is a must!  I had to redo all the cabinets because I could never find anything.  It helps when putting groceries away.FB_IMG_1558746074875
  • Tip #5  Last but not least…please have monthly family meetings.  We set up who does chores and talk about what is going on the next month.  Communication is important in a house with many people, always include the children’s input.  Chore charts for reminders and schedule times for work and activities are marked down.FB_IMG_1558746080218

“The one thing I treasure most about being a mother…..
I love when I can be a part of every aspect of my teens life. Every emotion from happiness about making the team, to sad when they get a bad grade after studying hard, being heartbroken over a crush and being super excited when they get accepted at the college they wanted to go!! When I have seen my children from birth experience life and I can be there to either celebrate their accomplishments or comfort them in their disappointments. As a proud mom…I love it!!”😍

“Hmmm… Gosh, this is a hard question! I think one thing that I have come to treasure about being a mom is the relationship change. Like, I treasure all the memories of when my children were little. And, I miss those early years. Even my youngest, is 14 now and so I am not needed the way I once was.. I don’t get many of those, I want to cuddle mom, she’s the best, coolest person ever moments.. But, since my oldest has moved out and started living her life on her own, there is more understanding, more respect and appreciation. Not to mention, she comes to me as one of her best friends, not because she has to, because I am her mom.. But, because she wants to.. She loves me, she trusts me, we are real friends and even though I am not needed the way I once was.. I am still needed and seeked out, on a different level now.. <3″
