Things I want to do before I kick the bucket….

  1. I want to travel to as many places as I can all around the world. I have started my journey this year by making my way to Puerto Rico in October. 609148
  2. I want to write at least 5 books that I self publish. Related image
  3. Making everyday a celebration of living. I want my family to see me happy everyday and enjoying life. I want my kids to remember me having fun with friends.having-fun-free-clipart-13
  4. Getting an RV and going on a road trip with the family. The last time we went the five of us on a trip we drove in a car 7 hours from Florida to South Carolina. We didn’t like the drive there but the trip was one to remember. I am thinking if we had a bigger vehicle we will be good.

Toys and Imagination……Then and Now

Did your Toy Box look like this?

Or this….from handmade toys to toys you hold in your hand, toys have changed so much over the past 40 years.  Kids as young as 3 years old are getting electronic toys for Christmas and birthdays and the prices for these items are extraordinary.

Remember Family Game Night…Did it look like this?

Or does it look like this?

Not everyone knows how to work a game controller but it seems as though in order for people to spend time together, they have to know how to play the latest video games.  Board games and cards were more inviting and made room for everyone to play.

Remember arcade games….this was how I played games….

This is how they play now….

PlayStation, X-Box and other game consoles use these controllers for gaming.  From my experience with these, there are 10 or more different commands for using these and you have to use them at the same time..phew.  Hats off to those who are able to keep up.  Don’t get me wrong, some of the games are really fun but I would rather have three buttons on my joystick(which is what we called it)…lol.

Other ways for game play now….the ever popular latest creation to technology…

The Smartphone(used to download all the latest in video games and applications)Classic games like PacMan, Frogger and Uno have been made available on these devices.  The only problem with these devices after long-time use, your device can sustain a virus or over-heat.

10 of the best toys of the 70’s and 80’s…taking a look back! Can you name all 10?

Happy Playing!!

I never did get to where I wanted to be, but I learned that you have to love what you do in order to be happy. God had other plans for me.

And now…Retired Life….

  • Up at 1 or 2 pm maybe 12 noon on a good day
  • Wash up and proceed to open the curtains for sunshine

  • Eat my lunch through blogging hours

My favorite quote by Maya Angelou

So, as you can see, a big difference in my life this past 8 months since I retired. I love the freedom of coming and going as I please and having a great support system in my family. I knew I had to make a change because I wasn’t happy making others dreams come true.

That’s all I got for you until tomorrow …stay tuned for Day 16 and don’t forget to:

31 Day Challenge-Day 3

Text_Over_Photo1564574588250[1]

Hey hey, its Day 3, its time to go back, way back, back in time to September 2018.  How did MMMoffamilyentertainment get its name?  Well, here it goes….

I always wanted to start a blog and just didn’t know how.  I researched and found WordPress which is phenomenal.  Next, I had to come up with a name.  I thought about the things I love which were my family, music, movies and anything that is fun.  When I started my blog, it was just about my family, musical concerts I attended and movies I recommend but then it occurred to me that I needed to broaden my audience a bit.  The rise of entrepreneurship inspired me to have a section for businesses to get their products out there. After doing that, I got an idea to feature inspirational people and then it grew from there.  So, the MMM that you hear is Music, Movies, and most of all Madness.  And for the other part, I am all about Entertainment!!  This is how MMMoffamilyentertainment was born.

Don’t forget to hit Like, comment, subscribe…Go Now!! Thank you to all my readers!!

I need to reach my goal of 500 followers by September 2019, Subscribe now and also follow me on Social Media via:

Living with Autism…the child, the parent and the friend

             wp2445843 Autism Spectrum Disorderwp2445843
Welcome to my world of Autism. This is my story told through my eyes as a parent of a child on the Autism Spectrum Disorder.
My name is LaFrieda Smith and this is my son Devon Alexander Smith.  He is now 18 years old and he is one of the most extraordinary people you will ever meet.  By looking at him, you would not be able to tell that he has a disorder but from the time he was 6 months old we knew he was special.  He has been diagnosed with a Spectrum Disorder, mental retardation with an IQ in the 50’s and is a high-functioning Autistic Teen.

53469049_2533095803399639_3952813996289032192_n10481401_816349731740930_8741544412607340280_n52914046_2533096433399576_6057091750760022016_n52985892_2533095843399635_3129789655537418240_n

As a Child:
When he was 6 months old, I started to notice that he was not able to keep up with his developmental chart with growth and milestones.  He sat up at and crawled at 8 months old and started walking at 13 months.  He developed a way of walking on his tipsy-toes and didn’t start to run until he was 2 years old.  With Autism, as a child, he would get frustrated with not being able to communicate with us..his speech was delayed to 5 years old…lots of babbling. He showed signs of anxiety almost everyday when he would have to learn new things.  A child with Autism is all about routine and keeping things in order.  When we would change his feeding schedule or would be somewhere he wouldn’t know where he was, he would cry alot.
As a Parent:
When he had his 2-year check-up, I told the doctor about some of the things I was seeing.  I had an older son who was 2 years older and he did not seem to have any of the same concerns.  The doctor referred us to neurologist where they did some hearing, psychological, and senses testing and they diagnosed him with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  As a parent, you are confused and blame yourself for your child having a handicap or illness but we shouldn’t, every child is special in their own way and having limitations doesn’t make them any less special.  In the early 2000’s, Autism wasn’t very popular and people really didn’t know what this was so I took it upon myself to research it and make adjustments to my daily routine to help my son get better.  As he grew, we started seeing that not only does this disorder affect their brain processing but it also interferes with their internal organs.  One of the most common things is the processing of Dairy and Wheat.  Devon was not able to tolerate dairy and at times and wheat would cause stomach issues.

Substitutions had to be made even with products containing Gluten.  Dairy, Wheat and Gluten affected how he behaved and made his processing slow down so knowing this we replaced milk with orange juice, we went wheat-free, cereal was dry, no cheese and Popsicle instead of ice cream. In addition to being allergic to these, when he got older we had him tested for other allergens and they found outdoor, pet and other food sources.  He will always have to check labels for garlic powder and hazelnuts along with staying away from grass and all trees here in Florida.  He suffered for years with this and it is one of the many things you have to watch for in their behavior.

As a friend,

friendship-clipart-school-friends

Through-out his school years, it was very difficult for him to make friends with the language difficulty.  He is in Special-Education classes, takes speech therapy and has been one of the most popular kids in his schools.  Straight A student, well-behaved, and loves his teachers.  So much, he used to sit with them all the time at lunch because he was non-sociable with everyone.  In his High School years it changed, he started being more vocal about being friends with others who share his interest.  He loves football, wrestling, and cooking.  Most of the time he is a loner even at home sometimes.  It is not that he doesn’t like others or us, he prefers to be by himself and take his imagination places.  He tells us all the the time he wants a girlfriend and we tell him…”In time it will come, be patient”.

As a Child:
Understanding his feeling growing up as teenager…why he can’t do what others do as a grown man.  Having feelings for others, being angry is common. Sense of time is lost, he is unable to figure out when something really happened.  Using phrases like, “happened last year” or “went last week” .  The time frame really was years ago or 2 days ago.  We are his time machine.  I suggested to him that he keep a calendar on his wall so he knows the days of the week and month.  As a grown man we decided that he get out there and get a job.   He got a job 3 years ago and has done exceptional at it.  He keeps his scheduled times of work on his phone and calendar along with his work-out schedules.  Being organized from day to day keeps him from being confused about what to do daily.

20190706_122919[1]

As a Parent:
Keeping him safe when crossing the road to making sure he doesn’t lose his money out of his wallet out in the world. Most children and adults with Autism are unaware of their surrounding when they are interacting and existing in the world. Devon has always been taught to look both ways before crossing the street since he was old enough to understand.  My son has always looked at the ground to avoid eye to eye contact with others which was very scary for us.  He is about to get his driving permit and we are excited for him to get it but worried about how he will do on the road. Kids with Autism avoid eye-contact. We always thought that in school, children should be not only taught the essentials for life but also the real-life survival skills needed to get them through their adult life along with the parents help.  Examples of this: How to grocery shop, cross the street without getting hit, counting money, holding a job and opening up a bank account.  Now that Devon works a mile from his house, he has been able to learn how to cross the streets properly.  Something else that came up after the job, was his ability to save money and have a bank account.  He is doing well with it and is even grocery shopping on his own watching pricing and labels with Walmart Pickup.  He was so excited to do it, it shows him his independence, which is very important for those with this disorder or any handicap.

As a Friend:
As I said earlier, Devon is one of the most popular guys at his High School along with my other two teens.  He doesn’t go outside of school and hang out with these students, he keeps his circle small to protect himself-which is something most people do to keep from getting hurt or involved in bad things.  We are his friends for now and hopefully as he gets older he will meet some great people along the way when he gets more interests and goes deeper into adulthood.
As a Parent:
Realizing that my teen may have difficulties in life due to his disability, has made me look at the world a little differently.  I found out alot about myself and some of the things that are flawed in myself,  watching my son learn things at a slower rate than others.  He has excelled at everything he has tried such as cooking, playing little league sports, working a job and electronics.  He has impressed me greatly on how powerful his mind works and how he can notice certain things an average person wouldn’t.  We all have things that makes us different and we must embrace them instead of hiding behind them.  If my son Devon can ask a girl out on a date or talk to a girl and carry on a conversation, we should be able to face our fears and difficulties.  Devon is going to be graduating High School May 2020 and is at the top of his class, We are so proud of him.

P4_1557919910722[1]Lady SoftballThis is my daughter Briana(8) she played 3 positions on Lady Naughts Softball (Second, Third and Short-Stop)

Lady Naughts Softball team played 16 games and had a season like no other in past years.  This group of ladies ended the season 7-9, when in previous years both JV and Varsity didn’t win games at all. The girls played hard and with a lot of heart along tears shed at some of the games.  Lakeland High School should be proud of these girls because of their determination and the way they practiced 5 days a week and showed up to PLAY.

On May 10, 2019, Lakeland softball coaches Chip and Mike had a Softball banquet to honor both JV and Varsity softball teams along with an appearance from Deron Collins, the Athletic Director of Lakeland High School.  The ladies were all given gifts from their coaches, were praised on their performances and exchange gifts with each other as a team to show their appreciation for one another.  Here are some of the ladies from the team all dressed up  for the banquet including my daughter Briana.

In the last game, The Rays really got shaken up when one of their hitters Daniel Robertson got hit in the face by pitcher Chad Green during a fast ball.  He is going to be okay and Chad Green respectfully was removed after that pitch from the game.  We don’t know if this was retaliation from a bad hit to one of the Yankee hitters in a previous game or not but these guys need to stay focused and remember what the ultimate goal is to make it to THE END!! Good Luck Tampa Rays in the next 20 games…hopefully you will get right back on top!!

Teams….What are they good for?

Sports Bullying” –The act of making a person feel less than worthy in any sport by allowing the seperation of class between team levels.

*This kind of bullying goes unnoticed and is said to be thrown under the rug for the sake of sports reputation.*

” I have 3 teenagers, 2 sons and a daughter who love sports and are athletic in their own sport of choice. What I have seen over the years is that, people don’t play the game like they used to with team support. It is very hard to be apart of a team when there are so many negative factors that stand in the way of helping those who want to become athletes succeed.”
“I have witnessed first hand how the “Politics” of sports begins even at a young age. When children try out for little league or as far as high school with JV and Varsity….why is it that people try so hard at a sport to only get criticised and told you are less of a player because you are not the best.”
“I will give you an example: The term Junior Varsity and Varsity refer to amateurs and experts, right? But what happened to everyone has to “crawl before they walk philosophy”. If a person is learning a sport and trying to become an expert at it…don’t they need encouragement and praise instead of “You suck” or “You are awful” because the last time I checked, coaches were teachers not dictators. If a person makes a mistake you dont critize them for it, you teach them the right way of doing it for the next time. Also, when teams are formed for the same school, the teams are not supposed to be seperated, they are all working for the same school. No one team is more important than the other.”
“Something that needs to change is a learning team being classified as unimportant just because they are new. Everyone deserves an award no matter what sport they are doing because it takes courage and strength to go out there and be in front of a crowd. If one team is scoring points and winning and the other is not, we should still support one another as one team with encouagement not bullying.”

*If you see signs of sports bullying report it immediately!!*

“Last night when I was at my daughters softball game & I noticed that the opposite team had their Varsity cheering the JV of the same school while our Varsity was at the game and didn’t support their team at all. That needs to stop”.🛑
